Do you guys use VPS? If so, what VPS do you guys use? Also, is one neccessary/recommended because I don't know if I should even bother getting one to work.
When I used to work for Arise which is a online work from home job I was going through training and my instructor kept saying VPS, VPS, which is what I thought of when I saw this question. Still not sure what it really is though.

I only plan on getting VPS when one of my websites hits a major turning point and starts bringing in a lot of revenue, then i'll push all my smaller domains all on to one VPS plan to save money and not have to pay high costs for bandwidth on individual domains. I think if you plan on running a multitude of websites, VPS is a good way to go. If you only plan on running or or two, just stick with a normal hosting plan until your website may get big enough to need a more dedicated server. :)

I'm using a bare-bones VPS from OVH. It has CPanel, and I'm paying about $25 a month for it. I love it. It's do-it-yourself server maintenance, but I've gotten used to it.

5 Steps to Configure Your New VPS and Get It Ready to Use

Step 1: Learn How to Log into Your VPS via Secure Shell (SSH) Access
Step 2: Update Your Server
Step 3: Create a New User and Modify Its Privileges
Step 4: Enable Public Key Authentication
Step 5: Set Up a Firewall for Your VPS

When it comes to web hosting, there are many different options available. Virtual Private Servers (VPS) are a powerful and popular form of hosting. Besides dedicated hosting and shared hosting, VPS combines the best of both. Virtual Private Server – VPS is a virtual server, one of several which are created on a single physical server. The word private means that your virtual server is reserved for you and every other user is given their own space.
Some of the benefits of using VPS are
Reliability
When you are considering VPS, it’s good to know that each user’s resources are secluded from others. This means that tasks being run on another user’s server won’t affect your website or application’s performance.

Complete control
With a VPS, you have complete control over your own server. The server is operated at the needs of the user and you are free to manage your server as you like. You can configure the VPS to your needs.
The management of the VPS is completely in your own hands, but if needed, technical support is there to help you. You can decide to choose a fully managed service, or a server in which your hosting provider will only take care of the management.

Scalability
Depending on your changing business needs – with VPS, scaling up and down can easily and quickly be done without any interruptions.

Security
Since the VPS is separate from other users on the same server, they cannot access the resources dedicated to you. The security of your server is in your control. You can put up firewalls and additional security tools without worrying about the other virtual servers.

Cost-effective
Opting for a VPS solution is much more affordable than dedicated hosting as it uses the same foundation of resource sharing. A basic VPS plan with the needed resources to launch and handle a website is reasonable on any budget.
