subdomains

Hi all,

We created a subdomain on our vps - ie sandpit3.ourdomain.com.au. The intention of this is for it to be sandpit environment for us to test things. However it didnt work because all reference to the sub domain pointed to the main domain.

We contacted service desk and explained we wanted the subdomain to be separate from the main domain - that is, when somone types in sandpit3.ourdomain.com.au, they are taken to those files. And when someone types in ourdomain.com.au they are taken to the site on that domain.

However, the service desk havent been able to do this. It has taken nearly 2 days since the original ticket was raised and I had to raise a new ticket as it seemed the old one got discarded. Our main site is not available now and hasn't been available for close to 24 hours.

Is this a hard thing to do - ie have sub-domain point to one set of files and the main domain going to its own files?

Thanks

DNS changes can take a bit, 24 - 48 hours depending on the caching of your own local dns server.

One trick is using google public dns: https://www.interserver.net/tips/kb/how-to-configure-network-settings-to-use-google-public-dns/

You'll see the site sooner.

As long as: the sub domain is created and an nslookup sub.domain.com dns.server - resolves the correct ip, and there is a sub domain created in the webserver the configuration is ready. If one of those isn't done that would be why it is not working.

John,

Can you please check on TVT-973-40799. IT has been over 48 hours for this request now and our main domain has been offline in that time frame. We are not happy at all.

Our main domain has also been showing a Cpanel error message for close to 24 hours - after the ticket centre said it has been fixed. This is simply not acceptable to us.

Can you please check this as a matter or urgency.

Thanks

Graham
